![]() ![]() ![]() iLoks are needed to authorize these versions of Pro Tools software without an internet connection. * An iLok is not required to use with Pro Tools | First, Pro Tools, Pro Tools Ultimate, Avid VENUE, and all “retail” Avid and third-party audio plugins. If you have products that use the old-style PACE license cards, you will need to use the original iLok USB Key. Please note: This iLok does not come with any pre-authorized licenses, software, or plugins. Whether you’re purchasing your first or want to consolidate licenses from older keys, iLok makes it easy to take all of your software authorizations with you, wherever you go. Plus, it’s sleeker, smaller, and more secure, with a full metal jacket (made from durable aluminum) that won’t split or crack from normal use. The all-new iLok (third generation) holds up to 1,500 authorizations-3x more than before-and delivers twice the transfer speed of the iLok 2. I used to bounce stems down into protools but it was mostly just to practice protools and I didn’t see any real benefit to using protools for my songs.Authorize your software* with the mightiest and smallest device yet. All I really did was import his project show him the tools he needed to use and the appropriate levels he needed for different track groups then he took the mouse.įor music Ableton is my go to. I showed him audition and within an hour he was comfortable enough to do the rest on his own. They were going to use protools but the kid was having trouble with it. I wrote about it on a another sub a few years ago after getting a few audition projects under my belt and the adobe team reached out to me via a DM about helping my school up and running with audition.Īlso right at that time my old high school teacher reached out to me asking if I could help with sound for a students film he was entering in a competition. I went back to my school for someone else’s graduation and talked to a professor who said they were no longer going to be using protools for similar reasons. I ended up switching to audition for film projects and it was probably easier for me to learn audition as I worked on this project than it was to actually do it in protools. I was just starting a new film project and I figured I’d check out the update and see if it fixed some issues I had but nope fucked my week right up. Eventually they did push out a patch that made it compatible but only because I think a lot of people complained. So I upgraded to the OS it said was recommended and it gave me a “this version of protools isn’t compatible with your os please upgrade to the next version of protools.” It was 100% to force people to pay for the upgrade. Always had problems with iLok and then one day protools pushed out an update that basically made it unstable on my os. I had to have protools for school and I hated it. Honestly protools is never going to be in the cards for me. Now if you're reading this hoping to use Pro Tools without paying for it then stop. Ain’t nobody in their right goddam mind using Pro Tools as a joke. 152K subscribers Subscribe 485 112K views 5 years ago I want to talk about running Pro Tools without an iLok. I fucking love Logic so hard, but when someone is like, “I use Pro Tools”, I’m like, “You’re using a 1996 Nissan Stanza with 5 spoilers on it- but I get it.” And you respect them, because they’re fucking serious. Like if you took AI to analyze the characteristics of all DAWs through the whole of internet archives, it would find that Pro Tools “Once dominated the market in power and capability- now dominates the market in editing speeds, that could one day propel a spacecraft into other dimensions.” It’s like holy shit. I dunno how fast these old school Pro Tools motherfuckers are editing and splicing and dicing and nudging, but seriously, for the past 20 years, “fast editing” is like everyone’s dream or whatever, and if that was a dream to be had, Pro Tools could make it come true. ![]() Like you strip away everything that made Pro Tools a Legend in early DAW days- and lemme just put it simply: “HOLY FUCK YOU CAN USE A COMPUTER AND THEN YOU PUT A COMPUTER ON IT TO RECORD AND MIX AND MAKE MUSIC THAT COMPETES WITH ANALOG WHAT IN THE FUCKING FUCK”, to say the least- I think all that’s left is editing speed. For someone who’s been using it since the late 90’s (not me, btw- I’m a Logic user since early 00’s), I think the actual actual answer is, “editing speed”. ![]()
